| More: | The EU-Canada Summit will be hosted by Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on 4 June 2007. This summit will provide an opportunity for high-level exchange during the German EU Presidency. In addition to close consultations on current international issues and cooperation in the area of crisis management (particularly in connection with Afghanistan), the agenda will include intensification of trade relations between the EU and Canada as well as energy and climate policy. The aim is to establish a regular dialogue on climate protection and energy security. Cooperation in the promotion of energy efficiency, CO2 capture and storage and other energy projects is also to be strengthened. The EU and Canada enjoy close contacts based on trust. The Joint Declaration of 1990 institutionalized dialogue between the EU and Canada. Since then, regular gatherings of government leaders and foreign ministers as well as working-level meetings have taken place. |
