The Competitiveness Council deals with the internal market, industry and research. It works horizontally to devise blueprints to strengthen competitiveness in the global context and growth in Europe. During the German Presidency of the EU Federal Minister Glos and Federal Minister Schavan will hold the chair of the Competitiveness Council.
The Council meets at least four times a year. The line ministers examine all over-arching and sector-specific competitiveness issues. For example, all political initiatives impacting companies are examined. Particular importance attaches to the effect of the initiatives on companies' competitiveness.
