Statement by the Federal Republic of Germany on behalf of the European Union held by Ambassador Klaus-Peter Gottwald at the IAEA Board of Governors 5 - 9 March 2007
Mr. Chairman,
1. I have the honour to speak on behalf of the European Union. The Candidate Countries Croatia, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia?and Turkey, the Countries of the Stabilization and Association Process and potential candidates Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Serbia, the EFTA countries Iceland and Liechtenstein, members of the European Economic Area, as well as Moldova and Ukraine, associate themselves with this statement.

2. The EU welcomes the recommendation by the Board of Governors to the General Conference to approve the application of membership of the Republic of Burundi and the Republic of Congo.
The EU invites the future members of the IAEA to sign, ratify, and implement at their earliest convenience a Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement and the Additional Protocols.
3. The EU is looking forward to a close and fruitful cooperation.
