Chancellor Merkel to chair the EU-Canada Summit

The President of the European Council, Chancellor Angela Merkel, will chair the EU-Canada Summit which she will open on Monday, 4 June 2007, at 5.40 p.m. Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper, the Canadian Minister for the Environment John Baird, the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, EU Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner as well as the European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana will also participate in the meeting at the Federal Chancellery.

Items on the summit agenda will be the relations between the European Union and Canada, economic cooperation and climate and energy policy.
