Joint Federal Cabinet and European Commission Meeting in Berlin

President of the European Commission Barroso, Federal Chancellor Merkel

Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel will receive José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, and the Members of the European Commission in the Federal Chancellery at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, 9 January 2007, for a joint meeting with the Federal Cabinet.

Members of the Federal Government and the European Commission will convene in the German Bundestag's Paul Löbe House in both the morning and the afternoon to discuss Presidency issues in 16 different working groups. These meetings will address the themes and priorities of the German Presidency's work programme. A working luncheon will take place at 1 p.m.

A joint meeting between the host Government and the college of the European Commission is a traditional fixture at the beginning of each Council Presidency.
