Within the context of the German EU Presidency Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier met Abdelkader Messahel, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, for talks on bilateral and regional topics on 2 April 2007. Both sides exchanged their views, focusing particularly on developments concerning the Western Sahara issue.
Federal Foreign Minister Steinmeier emphasized that all efforts to find a peaceful solution on the basis of consensus would continue to receive support, especially those made within the framework of the United Nations.
