Views on Europe. Europe and German Painting in the 19th Century
Date: 08.03. - 20.05.2007
Venue: Brussels

Short description

The exhibition of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden and the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlung München is the cultural contribution of the Federal Republic of Germany to its Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2007. The exhibition presents the comprehensive survey of the diversity of German painting, from Classicism by way of Romanticism to Realism, spanning the period from the French Revolution to the First World War. More than 150 great works of art, from Caspar David Friedrich to Adolph Menzel demonstrate how closely 19th century German art was integrated within Europe.
