Short description

The aim of the conference is to further develop plans discussed during previous EU Council Presidencies to coordinate cultural economic policy. How can coherent policies support the cultural economy in Europe more effectively? Workshops will provide an opportunity to discuss the requirements of cultural economic policy with reference to specific case studies and from the point of view of communities, regions, Member States and the European Union. The Conference will consider the cultural economy in Europe from several different angles. The starting point is the European Commission’s study on the economy of culture in Europe. The focus will then shift to Europe’s cultural economy in the context of international competition as well as the cultural economy in Asia and Africa. Leading figures from creative life in Europe will give their opinions on the state of the cultural economy. The requirements and concrete proposals raised in the discussions may give new impetus to the development of coherent policies for the cultural and creative economy in Europe. The event is organized by the Office for Cultural Policy and Economy, the Goethe-Institut and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, and is funded by the Federal Foreign Office and the European Commission.
